ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS (RCA) & PROBLEM-SOLVING

Most cases that require problem-solving end up alleviating the symptoms as opposed to the cause, i.e., symptomatic relief. Root cause analysis (RCA) requires the investigator(s) to look beyond the solution to the immediate problem and understand the fundamental or underlying cause(s) of the situation and put them right, thereby preventing re-occurrence of the same issue.

This may involve the identification and management or the reengineering of processes, procedures, activities, inactivity, behaviours or conditions. This program aims to elevate the knowledge and skills of executives/ business managers from various departments to contain problems as soon as they occur or are discovered so that they can initiate an appropriate plan to address, mitigate and/or eliminate the problem.

INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AUDITING

Internal audits are a mandatory requirement for all Internal Organisation for Standardisation’s (ISO) Management System standards. Since 2015 most of the management system standards have been revised and enhanced. Further, all management system standards now have a common High-Level Structure (HLS) to allow for easier integration of the various management standards, e.g., Quality, Environment, Health & Safety, Anti-Bribery Management etc.

All internal audits must be conducted as per clause 9.2 of the standards. The Audit Practices Group (APG) under the purview of the International Organisation for Standardization, has also issued a formal guidance document on how to carry out these internal audits. The guidance document is titled ISO 19011:2018 GUIDELINES FOR AUDITING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS.

This course/workshop provides training on auditing management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 37001 etc), including the principles of auditing, managing an audit programme and conducting management system audits, as well as guidance on the evaluation of competence of individuals involved in the audit process. This course is designed for individual(s) managing the audit programme, internal auditors and key members of the management system teams.

The application of this document to other types of audits is possible, provided that special consideration is given to the specific competence needed.
